How To Get There
Transportation guides and directions for reaching Bangalore — India's fifth-largest city and a major gateway to Karnataka.
Reaching Bangalore
Bangalore is well connected to the rest of India and the world by air, rail, and road. As a major metropolitan hub, the city serves as a natural entry point for visitors heading to destinations across Karnataka — from the historic forts of Bidar to the UNESCO-listed temples of Pattadakal.
By Air
Kempegowda International Airport serves Bangalore with domestic and international flights. Located about 40 kilometres north of the city centre, it connects to major Indian cities and key global hubs across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
By Rail
Bangalore City Railway Station (KSR Bengaluru) and Yesvantpur Junction are the two main railheads. Regular express and superfast trains link Bangalore to Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mysore, and other major cities across the country.
By Road
National highways connect Bangalore to neighbouring states. The city's bus terminals — including Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) — offer state-run and private bus services to towns throughout Karnataka and beyond.
Getting Around the City
Once in Bangalore, visitors have several options for local travel. The Namma Metro rapid transit system covers key corridors, while auto-rickshaws, app-based cabs, and city buses provide extensive coverage. The temperate climate also makes walking and cycling pleasant in many neighbourhoods.
Beyond Bangalore
From Bangalore, travellers can easily reach Karnataka's major destinations. Mysore lies about 150 kilometres southwest, while historic Bidar and Gulbarga are accessible by rail and road to the north. Pattadakal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the Malprabha river, rewards those venturing deeper into the state.
